CHRIST DIT « OF THE PRACTICE »

The Christ of Vailly's court on Sauldre is taken away under the eyes of the mayor, the justice of the peace and the instigator of the time.

A young painter from the country had been bribed to perform this operation.

Father Peret, appointed at Vailly sur Sauldre on November 1, 1886, went to the mayor to obtain that Christ be returned to him.

The City Council, seized at its request, unanimously deliberating less than one vote, voted to give this Christ to the parish priest Peret.

It is only in the morning of 8 June that the field guard brings him back to the cure, hidden under a bag, in order to hide it from the eyes of the curious. He gives it to him against signature of a receipt written by the mayor. (G.M. Archives)
