In 1861 the former presbytery, named « Priory » whose first construction dates back to the 12th century, is in such a state of ruin that its demolition and construction of a new building are envisaged.

In 1862 the estimate of the new presbytery seemed too high for the city council, which refused to accept it.

But in 1868, the sale of the priory, a sum allocated from the municipal budget and a grant from the Ministry of Justice and Religious Affairs, finally provided the necessary funds for the construction of a new building, the work of which began three years later.
