SAINT SOLANGE Patronne du Berry

SAINT SOLANGE
Saint Solange is a virgin and martyr Catholic and Orthodox, patron saint of Berry.
It would have lived in the 9th century, rising around 860 near Bourges, in a hamlet that is now called Sainte-Solange.
Solange was a young shepherdess of great beauty who had made a vow of chastity and was consecrated to God.
One day, it would have been noticed by the son of the Count of Poitiers, who was called Ramulfe. He tried to seduce her, then, faced with his refusal to break his vow and marry her, he pursued her.
In her race to escape Ramulfe, she struggled and both fell on horses in a stream. Crazy rabies, he beheaded her.
Legend: Legend tells that after his beheading, his head, separated
of his body, called the name of Jesus three times. His body would
then picked up his head and carried him to the church of St. Martin, where
She would have been buried.
His cult: Saint Solange is celebrated on May 10. His cult remained very
in the Berry, where it was used in particular for rain
drought. His relics are preserved and venerated. It is
the patron saint of the former Berry province.
